A very eventful day

We took Merche's horse to a horse specialist vet in St Louis. About 3 hour drive each way. We left at 8:30 in the morning and got home just when it was getting dark at 5ish pm.
Merche had been complaining about the horse being hard to handle under saddle... Her trainer suggested we take Atheria to a specalist. So we did.
The vet did some acupuncture- poking Atheria on the neck area with his finger.. and going.. "Hey.. she has a problem with her right hoof..."
So they sedated Atheria and then broke out the X-ray machine.
Studied the results.
Meanwhile, Ian ever so curious watched this with me standing on a stool so he could reach the observation window.
Then he went to the lobby for a while while they carried on more xrays.. only to come back and beg me to come with him.. he had questions about...
These.
And this scary looking display.
I explained to my 8 year old: They are for people like you and me and doctors- so that we can learn what happened to these dead horses and learn how to save the lives of other horses in the future..
He accepted that.
Finally we got the X-ray results.. Atheria's frog (the meaty part of the hoof) got pierced by something small and then infected... the vet cleaned it out, put her on antibiotics, and gave her a clean bill of health. We were relieved!
Then it was time for Atheria to have some dental work done.
Then it was all good. Atheria is one very happy girl. She can chew her food well, and she can run like a... horse!
Finally, I had some success of channeling a little La Maquis and caught this pic of the swan! :)
